8 BIT FANTASY

> Thumbails. Graphite on Bond, 2.5 x 4".

Last week, I realized that I had forgotten to submit something for the "I am 8 Bit" show. I also needed to create a cover submission for the SOS anthology.

> Sketch. Graphite on Bond, 8.5 x 11".

Using the pyramid from Qbert as a basis for the composition, I brought in elements from my story in SOS, fusing a surreal narrative with classic video game iconography.

I originally intended to fully paint the piece, but I was desperately short on time. (Since coming back from Sydney, I've finished an image for the LA Book Fair, an illustration for the 40th anniversary issue of Rollingstone, and a cover for Fables 64, with new and old projects in waiting in the wings.) It was a bit frustrating, since I had lost some of the line work under the paint after I decided to take it into photoshop.

> Finish. Photoshop CS2, 8 x 12", 600 dpi.

Since "SOS" is a very simple ambigram, I wanted the image to work in the same way. In fact, it might even work better upside down. The work is so new I have trouble judging it at the moment.

Prints of Qbert and Freaks are now available.
