A new sketchbook begins. These color pencil drawings were done at a figure drawing workshop nearby my home.

I took a quick trip to San Francisco last week. (There's a bit of LAX in the drawing above.) Thanks so much to
Dice and
Mei for being such great hosts. Dice gave us a tour of Pixar, which seemed like retreating into a warm inviting blanket. An amazing work environment, certainly, but I seem to enjoy more the harsh wilderness of being a sole proprietor. They had a craft fair that day at Pixar--it was great to run into folks like
Enrico and
Ronnie, who I've chatted with at various events over the years. Enrico gave me a copy of his new book, an inspiring tale of love and drawing which I read on the way home.
I also visited my friend, Jay Sacher, at Chronicle Books. In the picture you can see a drawing I had done of him in his office. He was less bearded back then. Jay is also a wonderful writer, and you can follow his stories at the
Golden Circle.
And while I'm plugging away, Rob Sato will be having
a show at GR2 on January 27th.

After seeing the
Nara show at Blum and Poe last week,
Gary Baseman invited me to have dinner with him and the Ryden family. Gary and Mark asked if they could draw in my sketchbook, so of course I happily obliged. Above is the combined efforts of
Mark Ryden, Baseman, Steven Ryden, J-9 Ryden, and
Marion Peck.
